More Than a Crown: The Banana Split Princess Pageant The Banana Split Princess Pageant is a celebrated Latrobe tradition, but its impact goes far deeper than what you see on the surface. It is a unique bridge between our town's storied past and the bright future of the young women who lead it. A Legacy of Local Pride Latrobe holds a special place in history as the birthplace of the Banana Split, created by David Strickler in 1904. Our Princess serves as the primary ambassador for this rich cultural heritage. By participating, young women help preserve our town's unique legacy and foster a deep sense of community pride that lasts a lifetime.
