Bearcat B.E.S.T.

Bearcat B.E.S.T. (Building Excellence for Skills Training) is a transition program at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, designed for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, typically ages 18 to 21. This program aims to support the transition from high school to independent living by focusing on key areas such as academic development, vocational training, independent living skills, and social skills. The program's goals include fostering functional independence, preparing students for competitive employment, promoting daily living skills, and encouraging social integration. Students are provided with opportunities to engage in college-level courses, participate in career-oriented training, and take part in on-campus vocational placements, all while being part of the college community. A unique aspect of Bearcat B.E.S.T. is its emphasis on building social connections. Students are encouraged to participate in campus activities, including events organized by the Bearcat Buddies Club, which helps them form friendships with other students. The program operates on a hybrid academic calendar and offers classes during the day from Monday to Friday.
